This privacy notice describes how the Bio-GO-SHIP website handles information. Bio-GO-SHIP is a scientific community program. The public website is currently hosted on GitHub Pages.
1. Who is responsible
Questions about this site can be sent through the Contact page. Program correspondence is handled by investigators affiliated with the Bio-GO-SHIP team, including at the University of California, Irvine, Department of Earth System Science.
2. What we collect
Information you send us
This website does not include a contact form. If you email an address listed on the Contact page, that email and any personal data you include are stored by the recipient in order to reply. We do not sell that information.
Technical logs
GitHub Pages, operated by GitHub, Inc., may automatically record technical information such as IP address, browser type, referring URL, and the time of the request. That processing is governed by GitHub’s own terms and privacy policy.
Local storage on your device
The site may store small technical preferences in your browser, such as light/dark theme and the selected language. These values stay on your device and are not used for advertising.
3. Third-party services you can choose to open
Some links send you to other sites, including GitHub, X (Twitter), and “Ask AI” tools (for example ChatGPT, Claude, or Perplexity). Those services have their own privacy policies. We only send them information if you click the link (for Ask AI, that includes a prepared prompt about Bio-GO-SHIP).
If a page embeds a video (for example YouTube), the video provider may collect data according to its own policy once you play the video.
4. Cookies and similar technologies
We do not use marketing or tracking cookies on this site. Browser local storage is used only for the technical preferences described above.
5. How long data is kept
Emails you send are kept as long as needed to handle the request, and then according to the recipient institution’s records rules. GitHub Pages log retention is controlled by GitHub.
6. Your choices
You can refuse optional third-party tools by not clicking those links and by not playing embedded videos. You can clear local storage in your browser settings. If you want a copy of, a correction to, or deletion of personal data you sent by email, contact us through the Contact page.
7. Changes
If this notice changes, we will update this page. The hosting, contact details, and program home may change as the site moves from this preview toward the production Bio-GO-SHIP website.
